Nicki Bloomer began her art career as a small child--painting and
drawing in her mother’s art room after school, illustrating books her
sister wrote, and designing cartoon characters. Later, as an
undergraduate at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond,
Virginia, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in both
Illustration and Video. To pursue her graduate work, she left her
beloved Richmond Braves, the notorious "Fan", and Shockoe Slip, to
attend Savannah College of Art and Design. She earned a Master of Fine
Arts in Illustration, and in her thesis work, she collaborated with her
sister again and wrote and illustrated wonderful and whimsical
children’s books. Upon graduation, Nicki worked as a videographer
for
the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys. After relocating to
St. Simons Island, Georgia, she designed highly coveted environmental
T-shirts. Nicki then held various positions creating high profile
promotional imagery for various Marketing Departments across the
Nation, making her way to San Diego, California, where much of her
family was living. Nicki also enjoyed many freelance opportunities
such as illustrating restaurant menus, designing imagery for the
Olympics campaign, creating surf industry logos, designing small
business and corporate identity materials, and illustrating packaging
and promotional material for toy companies. In January of 2001,
Nicki's dream came true: she created "Nicki Bloomer Illustration and
Design" and began working from her home office. She met a wonderful
agent from Los Angeles named Carrie Perlow and joined the illustrators
Carrie represented, "DasGrup." In order to be closer to the rest of her
extended family, Nicki has relocated her growing family to the sunny
coast of North Carolina. Her client list includes: Harcourt, Houghton
Mifflin, Coca Cola, Sempra Energy, and her primary client is Mattel toy
company. Much of Nicki's artwork can be seen in toy stores on Kelly,
Polly, and Barbie packaging. She also donates her art and illustration
to such philanthropic endeavors as the American Cancer Society and
local charities.
